Hello fellow #100Day writer!
This will be my third time doing #100 Days of Writing, so I’ve learned what works for me and what helps me keep showing up every day. Everyone is different, but I do encourage you to think about how you can best set yourself up for a strong start this week. Here are a few things that have worked for me…
Planning. This challenge is all about showing up, setting your creativity free and seeing what happens, but you don’t want to sit down on Day 1 and stare at a blank page! So, plan what you’ll write this week. If you’re stuck, find some writing prompts online. Google turns up lots of options. Jericho Writers have loads of good ones for specific genres. You could start here.
Check your diary. For this first few weeks, I recommend scheduled writing time. This helps keep things simple while you develop a daily writing habit. Look at your schedule, identify possible daily writing slots and block them out. Stick to them as if they are important appointments (they are!). Look for opportunities where you can write instead of scrolling, or while waiting for an appointment. Even five minutes counts.
Prepare your tools. We want to smooth the way as much as possible. What do you need to do to make sure you have what you need and are not distracted or disrupted. Clear your desk, sharpen your pencils, crack open that new notebook, charge up your laptop and make sure you have coffee – do whatever you need to do to be ready.
Introduce yourself. Jump on over to this post and say hi! Being part of this community will keep you motivated!
Daily posts. If you plan to post daily on Notes, Instagram or elsewhere, how can you make this easy? Create a folder on your phone for images to accompany your posts and start collecting. Set up a template that you can copy and paste. If you don’t know what to post, simply tell us what you wrote today and what you noticed.
Counting the days. How will you keep a tally of the days? I have a wall planner by my desk and I’ve numbered the days up to Day 100 – Friday 20 December. I’ll tick them off as I go - very satisfying!
I hope that helps! Most importantly, find ways to make this work for you. There are no rules, other than this: show up to your writing every day for 100 days.
I’ll be right there with you! 😁
One of the ways I persuade myself to write is to make a cuppa, grab a biscuit and climb back in bed with my laptop in a morning. Works every time 😄
